Published as Plate 39 in the prestigious Les Maîtres de l’Affiche series, this artwork was designed to promote the Grandes Fêtes des Tuileries held in August to raise funds for the poor of France and Russia.
Gaston Noury (1866-1936) was a celebrated French illustrator and poster artist known for his elegant, often theatrical compositions, frequently depicting women in Parisian society and events of the Belle Époque. His style bridges Art Nouveau and early poster modernism, marked by vivid colours, elaborate typography, and decorative fluidity.
This poster captures two elegantly dressed women riding in an ornate sleigh under a pastel sky, symbolising Franco-Russian solidarity and charity. Noury’s refined yet lively illustration style is complemented by dramatic lettering and harmonious composition, making this a striking historical piece of both artistic and cultural significance.
