This refined lithograph by Georges de Feure was created in 1896 for the 5th exhibition of the Salon des Cent at 31 Rue Bonaparte in Paris, published as Plate 10 in the prestigious Les Maîtres de l’Affiche series.
Georges de Feure (1868–1943) was a central figure in the Art Nouveau movement, known for his ethereal, elegant depictions of women and interiors. In this poster, a contemplative young woman examines a white carnation, her gaze dreamy yet intense, framed by flowing hair and a wide hat with softly stylised foliage in the background. The muted tones of green, lilac, and gold highlight de Feure’s characteristic sense of poetic melancholy and refined decorative design.
The Salon des Cent was an influential Parisian art exhibition that promoted affordable prints and modern poster art to a wider public. Georges De Feure
Georges de Feure was born in Paris. He was the son of a Dutch architect. He was a painter and designer, having worked in the style of symbolism as well as Art Nouveau. De Feure was a student of fine arts in Amsterdam during the 80s of the 19th century, having left the Netherlands. He moved to Paris, where he worked as an independent artist. De Feure presented his works of art at the “Exposition Universelle de Paris” in 1900. He was active in the field of furniture, newspapers, theater designs and posters. It should not be forgotten to mention that De Feure was nominated Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur for having created his designs of the decorative arts.
