Marko Stupar was born November 11, 1936 in Vodenica, Bosnia. The first part of his childhood with his two sisters and his brother is like a dream, but not for long. April 6, 1941, the first bombing resound, this is the Nazi occupation for four years. His father past away in 1947. In 1948 Marko has to leave his hometown to live 600 km away, with her aunt in northern Yugoslavia. The drawing allows him to escape from reality, from a childhood marked by war and exile. Marko wants to become a painter. But how can you have the necessary self-confidence when nobody is able to tell you your talent? How to spend time painting when at 16 years old you must have jobs to live while continuing studies? Marko secretly dreams of Paris, where his father worked before his birth, The city of all hopes and opportunities where he can pursue his passion for painting. While he is married, working as an engineer in a factory of machine tools, in 1964 he leaves to live his dream and settles down in Paris. At the beginning, he had to accept the first jobs he found to provide for his family. He became a father in 1965. During this period, the creative atmosphere of Paris was very complex with conflicting artistic trends. The abstract was the dominant pictorial expression; so distant from the Impressionist Masters and the Nabis from the begginning of the twentieth century who impressed Marko so much. But he lives in a world steeped with his personal poetry, on which the trends have no influence. His human nature, which is more introspective than exuberant, directs his hand. He feels he must stay true to himself. Then and quickly his painting was rewarded. He received many awards and exhibited worldwide. He remains attached to the representations of the Mediterranean Basin, Venice, Croatia, Montenegro and of course Paris, his city of light. The capital ’s palpitations have no more secrets for him, he knows it from the inside: firstly, he settled in the Marais, then he had a studio in Montmartre and later rue La Fayette... he sits down in café terraces to observe it, in its parks, its restaurants and sometimes at the window of a hotel room to capture a different angle. After staying in Dijon for a few years, Marko returned to Paris where he lives today with his second wife, Adna, who is a pianist, and spends his time between Paris and the Adriatic coast.
