Tom Burckhardt’s work is a carnival of images jumbled and jostling each other in precarious nonsensical compositions. He uses lushly colored and patterned images from all kinds of sources that bounce between abstraction and representation. Images come from tool catalogs, paper and fabric patterns, funhouse painting, architectural details, stripes, dots and squiggles. It is as if Burckhardt is a cartoonist merrily channeling Ellsworth Kelly, Paul Feeley, Robert Therrien, and Myron Stout, among others. There is a time of year when dandelions abound in the local fields. I often see a red tractor ploughing late crops and this view is inspired by a fine day for dandelions. Ploughings give a sense of direction in cantrast with the dandelion clocks.
Rob Barnes, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Rob Barnes studied painting and printmaking at Hull College of Art and London University in the early 1960s. He taught etching, screen-printing, lino and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. He later moved to the University of East Anglia, Norwich where he continued teaching in the School of Education until 2006. Presently he divides his time between printmaking and his other passion, playing the violin in local orchestras and for choral performances. CRUSADERS FOR JUSTICE was created as a tribute to Thurgood Marshall, civil rights lawyer and first African-American appointed to the US Supreme Court. As a lawyer, Thurgood Marshall championed civil rights and was the lead lawyer in the pivotal Supreme Court Case Brown vs Board of Education, Topeka (1954). This impactful graphic statement by the African-American woman printmaker and sculptor, Elizabeth Catlett, portrays a powerful black and white portrait of Thurgood Marshall with two seated figures, a male and female, engaged in legal counsel in the foreground.

Haworthia Fasciata is a limited edition still life print by Kerry Day. Reduction linocuts are printed from one piece of lino, cutting it again for each new colour in the design. All the prints for an edition have to be printed before moving on to the next colour, because once the lino is re-cut you can’t make any more.
