About the Item

Original lithography by Jacques Auriac for Bally shoes for men. Bally collaborated with artists such as Otto Baumberger, Pierre Gauchat, Bernard Villemot, Hugo Laubi, Lise Berset and Jacques Auriac to create advertising posters. Jacques Auriac was a man of craft; he modestly insisted on this point on all occasions. His education began with the Beaux-Arts in Bourges and Paris (from 1940 to 1943) under the difficult circumstances of the war. Jacques Auriac learned a knowledge that was perhaps a little too general, but he largely trained himself in his future profession through practice and observation of the masters of poster design of the previous generation and of the contemporary period. He has always defined himself as self-taught and independent. Just out of school, he found Guy de la Vasselais in the late 1940s. This man was one of the best publishers and printers of posters of the time. La Vasselais had built up a remarkable team of graphic designers after the war. There were some big names like Raymond Savignac, Hervé Morvan and other personalities... Mode - Advertising

Original "BALLY" Shoe kinetic style vintage poster, 1981
By Jacques Auriac
Located in Spokane, WA
Original linen-backed small-format Bally women's shoe posters. The modern kinetic design of the shoes is represented by lines in different colors on a purple background. The poster does have a black outline around the image. The size is of the original poster and does not include the linen backing size in the measurements. The poster is undated, but all references indicate that this poster is from 1981. Artist: Jacques Auria (1922 - 2003) The poster is in very good condition but did have touch up work during linen backing along the bottom right corner and edge. Using bright, contrasting colors (such as pink, white, and purple) creates a visually engaging composition. The flowing lines and curves suggest motion, fitting for a Bally shoe vintage poster...
