AOA to USA American Overseas Airlines original vintage poster

1948

About the Item

Original poster: AOA to USA, American Overseas Airlines. THERE'S ALWAYS SUNSHINE ABOVE THE CLOUDS. This poster is archival linen-backed and ready to frame. The poster is signed LEWITT-HIM for the 2 artists that created this original vintage poster. Artists: LEWITT-HIM (Jan Lewitt, 1907-1991; George Him, 1900-1982). Printer: Royle and Son, England. Towards the middle of World War II, the American Export shipping company purchased an airline and obtained permission to operate it across the Atlantic. Using Vought-Sikorsky “flying boats”—the only craft able to make nonstop transatlantic flights at the time—they performed major military service until the war ended, and then became the first airline to operate transatlantic commercial flights. It was quickly snapped up for a substantial sum by American Airlines and renamed American Overseas Airlines. Beloved by buffs for its progressive organization (it was the first to operate the two-story Stratocruiser) AOA was, with TWA and Pan Am, one of only three lines operating across the Atlantic after the war. This poster, with its crisp, colorful, and iconoclastic graphics, make it crystal clear that AOA was the superior choice for transoceanic airborne travel. Reference: Ref: PAI-XLI, 361 (var) The emblem along the bottom becomes the seal for American Airlines and used on their future posters.

Original Ford V8 vintage Swedish poster, c. 1932. Archival linen backed and ready to frame. In very good condition with expertly restored fold marks. Printer: Olséns Litogr. Anst. Sthlm. 'Den bästa som byggts, - säger Henry Ford'. Translated: "the best car every built" Henry Ford. Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company revolutionized the automobile market again in 1932 by introducing the company's V-8 engine. By casting the engine's block as a single piece, Ford decreased manufacturing costs and made the engine affordable to consumers. The venerable engine remained in production until 1953. Other automobile companies had used V-8 cylinder engines for their heavy, expensive vehicles. But Henry Ford wanted a V-8 engine light enough and cheap enough to power an inexpensive car like a Ford. After years of work, the engine was introduced in 1932. The world's first low-priced, cast-in-one-piece V-8 engine. A runner on top of the car was placed to show that this new car had speed even though the car could outrun a person on foot. The beautiful Ford V8 shows a man and a woman in this very stylish automobile racing...
