Jean Dubuffet 'New Orleans Jazz Band (No Text)' 1990

1990

About the Item

Jean Dubuffet painted his New Orleans Jazz Band series in 1944, but there is no specific record of him having visited New Orleans. Instead, Dubuffet was inspired by American jazz music, which was widely popular in France at the time, especially during and after World War II. His fascination with jazz led him to create several works reflecting the vibrant energy and improvisational nature of the music. The New Orleans Jazz Band painting, part of his larger "Marionettes of the City and Country" series, was created in Paris, capturing the lively spirit of jazz and the cultural exchange happening between the U.S. and France during that period.
