Jonathan Chritchley
SAILS II, COTE D'AZUR

About the Item

ABOUT THIS PIECE: Since 2008 fine art photographer Jonathan Chritchley has regularly been invited to attend the Classic Yacht Regattas on the legendary Cote d’Azur in France, working in and around the waters off such glamorous spots as Saint-Tropez, Monaco and Nice. Chritchley shoots from fast speedboats and helicopters, sometimes out in the water working for 8 or 9 hours a day in storms, hot sun and rain in order to achieve his minimalist, sculptured sail abstract photographs. Shape, form and space are the three ingredients he looks for in his quest to do justice to these magnificent vessels and create his unique collection of photographs. Chritchley's sail abstract photographs are seen across the world in private collections and adorning Ralph Lauren stores and luxury hotels from Munich to Moscow, Seattle to Singapore. Passionate about the sea, Jonathan Chritchley attempts to perpetuate through his work the beauty and purity of our all too fragile environment. His love affair with the beautiful white horses of the Camargue, an animal that lives in and around the Mediterranean Sea in southern France, especially captivates Chritchley. ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Infatuated with the sea in all its forms, photographer Jonathan Chritchley encapsulates the mighty strength and epic magnificence of the ocean and life around it. His photographs are softly magnetic, enchanting in their tranquility and serene stillness. "The mind is like water, only able to reflect when it is perfectly still," says Chritchley. PACKAGING: 30x40" and 40x60" prints are shipped in a special fortified tube to guard against bending or damage. Framed 30x40" prints are shipped via FedEx in a bespoke cardboard box with a fitted interior armature for the frame. We do not frame the extra large, 40x60" print sizes because they are too large to ship without risking damage. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We ship unframed prints internationally via DHL. The international shipping cost does not include the tax & duties, which will be the responsibility of the customer. Unfortunately, because of the high shipping cost we do not ship framed prints internationally at this time.

The subjects for his striking and captivating visuals are typically set in the most ordinary environments, drawing the viewer into a charged but serene experience based on composition, palette and formal lines. Saturated in color, the nominal subjects gather a haunting and mesmerizing quality, creating a poignant pretext for the making of a formal color photograph. Decisively capturing the traces left by humanity, Pawassar's images are filled with a sense of universal nostalgia and pay homage to the passage of time and the extinguished moment, referencing documentary and street photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebastian Salgado...
