This colorful and bright original lithograph by Appel is an artist proof and annotated "E.A." (Epreuve d'Artiste) aside from the regular edition of 110. It is also signed in pencil by the artist in the lower left margin. Created at the Mourlot studio in 1974, it is a perfect example of his push towards further abstraction in the 1970's and 1980's.
Christiaan Karel Appel was a Dutch painter, sculptor, and poet. He started painting at the age of fourteen and studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in the 1940s. He was one of the founders of the avant-garde movement CoBrA in 1948.
