Signed verso, 'Ant McNaught', (American, born 1952), inscribed '(After Derain, 1905)', and with edition number '27' inscribed over limitation of '375', titled 'Port de Vendres' and dated 2020. Framed dimensions: 34.5 x 3 x 40.25 inches. A substantial, Post-Impressionist harbor scene showing a sun-drenched view of the Port of Vendres in the South of France with sailing boats moored to the wharves and a view beyond towards terracotta roofs against verdant, green hills, all beneath a late sunset sky. A bright and breezy, full-size (24" x 30") giclée of the artist's original 2020 oil painting, modeled after the 1905 work by André Derain (French, 1880-1954), now held in the permanent collection of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. This Post-Impressionist and Abstract Expressionist artist studied at the Esalen Institute with Erin Gafill and Tom Birmingham and, later, at the Santa Cruz Art League. Ant McNaught currently lives and paints in Santa Cruz, California.

I received my first drawing instruction at the age of six from my father. We were living in New Mexico at the time and he was an avid amateur landscape painter there. Although I dabbled in painting off and on for years, my first career took a different path. Following a BA from the University of Colorado and a PhD from The Ohio State University I entered a career in neuroscience research. However, in 2004, I committed to painting full time and was almost immediately rewarded with the joy of recreating scenes I loved.
