About the Item
About the artist:
Bay Area artist, Carson Gladon's "transparent collages" combine the elements of nature with a mix of computer graphics and traditional painting using vivid and pastel colors. Seeming, "to infuse the techniques of the European impressionists with a hint of the delicacy of a Chinese or Japanese silk screen" (Deitch).
His career began at the age of nineteen; when he won his first award as a painter at a juried show held at the Long Beach Museum of Art in California. Following this he has been the recipient of numerous honors at both one-man and juried exhibitions, and he has devoted himself to the teaching of art. As a professor of art for thirty years at El Camino Community College in the San Francisco Bay area, he teaches painting, drawing and design.
With the skills of drafting and photography he has created a new style that he calls "transparent collage." He uses several layers of images in which all of the levels are visible creating luminosity in which the subject matter appears to move in and out of. The composition becoming almost abstract utilizes computer graphics, which he combines with traditional painting or pastel.
Gladson's work is part of the permanent collections of both the San Francisco Museum of Art and the Oakland Museum of Art. His art is part of many corporate and private collections, including the Fluor Corporation, Neiman Marcus, AT&T, Toyota, Price Waterhouse, Federated Stores, Bullocks Department Stroe, Cannell & Chaffin, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, Weyerhauser, Rutan & Tucker, Loeb & Loeb, Warner Brothers, Welton Becket, General Mills, UCLA School of Business, Chapman University, Port of Long Beach, and the California Association of Realtors.
