Artist: David Klein #DavidKlein #TWAposter An interesting, exciting montage from David Klein who was pretty prolific while working under TWA. Note the lion in the lower left-hand corner. This poster has been archivally mounted on linen. Original Fly TWA to Switzerland vintage poster. The vintage travel poster features all the sites you would expect to see when visiting Switzerland. TWA (Trans World Airlines) was formed in 1924 as Transcontinental & Western Air. The airline's first route was New York to Los Angeles, soon followed by multiple National routes. The airline expanded to serve Europe, the Middle East, and Asia after WWII when the company was under the control of Howard Hughes, owner from 1939 until 1961. Hughes was a dominant force in expanding and promoting the routes flown by his company. The economy was vastly improving and travels by air for business and pleasure increased too. Posters were a key element in promoting this form of travel and TWA. The airline started a decline in the 1970s that ended up in a third bankruptcy that caused its acquisition by American Airlines in 2001. The airline operated in 132 destinations worldwide and had a fleet size of 190. Klein was best known for his influential work in advertising. Although he produced illustrations for Broadway theatrical productions, Hollywood films, the United States Army, and numerous corporate clients, Klein is best remembered for the iconic travel images he created for Howard Hughes and Trans World Airlines (TWA) during the 1950s and 1960s. Klein delved into the world of travel advertising — his trademark was to feature popular landmarks in bright colors and abstracted style, echoing the excitement and enthusiasm of travel in a post-war world. He is best remembered for his iconic travel images for Howard Hughes’ Trans World Airlines (TWA) in the 50s and 60s.

Government World War II timeframe posters were folded and mailed out across the nation.). These original fold marks are not considered a flaw. The artwork was done in 1939 but the poster was officially printed in 1941. You can sense the speed of the aircraft in this image with the small white trails ¬¬¬¬off the wings and the contrast in size of the eagle in size to the planes. Tom Woodburn. A Texan who had studied art and architecture, Tom Woodburn was commissioned in the Infantry a month after the U. S. entered World War I. He hopes it will never have to enter World War II.
