About the Item

Signed, titled artist proof. Edition of 135. Like much of his work, Royal Palm has atmosphere of the Mediterranean, but all of the elements are rooted in the artist's neighborhood. The arches along the bottom of the print are from the façade of the Barker Building in Berkeley. The floor plan in the center right is is a reference to Charles A Platt: the Artist as Architect. It also contains drawings of a Mayan building and drawings by Frank Lloyd Wright. Royal Palm with Turkish Design is an interplay between the architectural rendering and the modeled line work of the palm. The border in the upper half of the print features a pattern from an early Ottoman brocade. David Smith-Harrison studied at Utah State University and served as studio assistant to Adrian Van Stuchelen and Moishe Smith. In 1983 he traveled in Europe and studied at the Art and Design Faculty of South Glamorgan Institute in Cardiff, Wales. Before leaving for Europe, Smith-Harrison began an intense professional association as a studio assistant to artist Trevor Southey. Smith-Harrison’s imagery is distinctive for its meticulous and studied execution and rigorous, demanding craftsmanship. The results are generally rich in subtle articulations and poetic spirit. His work is located in private collection in Japan, Taiwan, Republic of China, Spain and the United States. The Palms #6 (Abstract painting)
By Robert Baribeau
Located in London, GB
The Palms #6 (Abstract painting) Charcoal on paper - Unframed. Baribeau constructs his paintings layer upon layer, building color, form and texture into viscous, impasto compositions, on supports that are themselves often thick, and even sculptural. He scratches and scrawls across his surfaces, infusing visceral emotion and energy into the work. His imagery is so layered and dimensional that even his works on paper convey a sense of texture and depth. Critics have connected Baribeau to a range of aesthetic positions, including everything from Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art to the 19th century Hudson River School, and compared him variously to the likes of Robert Rauschenberg, Joan Mitchell, Cy Twombly, and Willem de Kooning. In truth, Baribeau employs a distinctive aesthetic voice that is personal and instantly recognizable, despite its multiplicity. His visual world is one where primordial, organic nature collides with the geometric, manufactured world, and where certain signature visual cues, such as black and white stripes, checkerboards, dots, and flashes of neon color appear and disappear. His work is included in several institutional collections, including those of the Neuberger Museum, Purchase, NY; Morgan Stanley...

Conceptual Realist Palm Tree Painting, "Oasis 1"
By Perry Vàsquez
Located in San Diego, CA
This is a conceptual oil painting by local San Diego artist, Perry Vàsquez. Its dimensions are 26.5 x 88.5. It comes in a wooden neutral frame. This painting depicts a palm tree against a blue sky background. The palm tree is ornate with fine details from the artist in the leaves and the tree trunk. The artist has employed bright colors like green, brown, and blue. Vàsquez focuses primarily on his exploration of various iterations of palm trees. Ubiquitous in Southern California, and historically viewed as a provider of nourishment, shelter, and bounty, the trees in Vásquez’s paintings are instead framed in peculiar or dire scenarios. Many of the trees in his work are ablaze, or are actually cell towers...
