Diana Kan was a painter renown for her landscape work.
Diana Kan was born in Hong Kong in the year 1926.Her father was a renown seal carver and calligraphy master. Diana initially studied with her father Kan Kam Shek, the esteemed calligrapher and painter. Her mother was a political writer who used a fake name as it was forbidden for women to write. In 1946, she was accepted by renowned artist and teacher Chang Dai Chen. Since 1948, Kan has held over 40 solo shows on four continents, and has received numerous
international honors and awards. She is also the author of the definitive textbook, "The How and Why of Chinese Painting."
Kan had a wonderful education studying at the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts and L’Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. She also studied at the Art Student’s League of New York City.
The artist often worked with watercolors. She was a member of the American Watercolor Society.
Diana Kan passed away in 2010. She was 84 years old.
Work by the artist can be found in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Diana Kan developed her own style of landscape painting. The artist was a master at creating compositions that gave the viewer the idea of a landscape, without filling in all the details.
