Born in Argenteuil-sur-Seine and raised in Le Havre, Braque began as a decorative painter before studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Academie Humbert in Paris, where he absorbed the vibrant colorism of the Fauves and the structural logic of Paul Cezanne.
