About the Item
Original vintage French opera poster: Antar. Artist: Georges Rochegrosse. Stone lithograph linen backed in very fine condtion, ready to frame.
The image features a medevil design with a knight and his horse on a large rock. The rocky landscape are beautifully colors. In the valley is a battle scene.
Antar was a 6th-century Arabian warrior-poet. Opera was in rehearsal at the Opera in 1914, when the composer died at the age of 36 on the very day war was declared. The performance was canceled and the opera was not given until nearly 7 years later.

Printed by Maquet Gr. Paris, 1921.
Georges Rochegrosse. He was a man of his time, one of the establishments, whose paintings brought large prices from a French public who loved his subjects and admired his technique. Raymond Rudorff, in the Belle Epoque, states that Rochegrosse "was to painting what Cecil B. DeMille was to costume films and he was a popular favorite until the early years of the century".
Rochegrosse was also a member of the Societe des Artistes Francais. He became an officer of the Legion d"honeur in 1910, and he enjoyed a long association with the Automobile Club of France, designing at least three posters for their yearly shows.

Original Gladiator Cycles. Artist: Gaston Noury. Stone lithograph that has professional archival linen backing. Size: 36" 49". C. 1889. Stone lithograph. Very good condition; ready to frame.
The Gladiator Cycle Company, Clément-Gladiator (from 1896), was a French manufacturer of bicycles.
The inside of all of the bicycle rims are done in gold or gold foil. Gold is also used in the flowers around the big ring that reads Gladiator. It doesn’t appear that this early bicycle had any brakes, so she may need that angel resting on her shoulder!
Fold marks restored during linen backing, ready to frame.
There is some waves at the bottom right, but no paper loss or damage. Antique bicycle posters have been and will be very collectible. This original Gaston Noury original stone lithograph is now challenging to find in any condition.
