About

Ikeda Manabu was born in Taku city, Saga, Japan in 1973.
The artist graduated from department of design, Tokyo University of the Arts in 1998 and completed his MA at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2003. He has participated and exhibited in numerous shows across Japan and in the US and Canada. He creates very detailed works on paper using ink, that can take him as long as three years to finish. The works explore fantastic and surreal subject matter, where imagery can take on multiple forms, and in general is more than it appears to be upon first glance. Ikeda Manabu's fantastic imagination and storytelling abilities make his work wonderful. He is currently completing a residency begun in 2013 at the Chzaen Museum of Art.
