About the Item

This realistic limited edition print captures a highly detailed, cropped, close-up view of water lightly rippling over rocks. The water reflects light above it to add dimension and depth to the piece. This Limited Edition giclee print is an edition size of 100. Printed on canvas, it ships framed in a warm gold floater frame, and is wired and ready to hang. The print itself measures 32" x 24" with an additional 2" added by the frame. Other floater frame options are available in silver, black, white, and walnut. For additional sizes and alternate frame options, please contact us. The artist has granted permission to Sorelle Gallery to create his Limited Edition prints. They are printed with pigment ink on a Premium Fine Art Matte Canvas and designed to meet museum longevity requirements and ensure consistency. Your giclee print will come with a Certificate of Authenticity and ships for free. Of his work, Connecticut-based artist, John Harris says, "I isolate and exaggerate forms, colors and sequences found in nature. My large scale, realist paintings take one to two months to complete, as I meticulously works to recreate various environmental complexities from photographs, memory and artistic expression. The process begins with mapping out large shapes of color on canvas, and then details are added. When the paint dries, more paint and glazes are added. The repetition of this careful glazing technique results in the dramatization of translucent layers - a visual effect that is conceptually harmonious with its subject: water. I am most interested in exploring water’s physical properties - reflection, turbidity, rhythm, pattern, that make up its unique viewing experience. I address these issues by isolating a moment in time in various bodies of water: oceans and rivers. The result is a series of peaceful, hypnotic and turbulent paintings."

Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media. An American art movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Photorealism evolved from Pop Art as a counter to Abstract Expressionism as well as Minimalist art movements. Though Photorealists share some aspects of American realists, such as Edward Hopper, they tried to set themselves as much apart from traditional realists as they did Abstract Expressionists. Photorealists were much more influenced by the work of Pop artists and were reacting against Abstract Expressionism. The word Photorealism was coined by Louis K. Meisel in 1969 and appeared in print for the first time in 1970 in a Whitney Museum catalogue for the show "Twenty-two Realists." It is also sometimes labeled as Super-Realism, New Realism, Sharp Focus Realism...
