About the Item
Our very important pollinators bees and butterflies are the stars of this print. The bees are buzzing around the vibrant blue ceanothus shrub and a Red Admiral, Camberwell Beauty and a Swallowtail butterflies are gracefully fluttering by the poppies and heuchera flowers. Hand printed in my studio from 7 separate lino blocks. Printed with oil based relief inks on 300gsm soft white Somerset velvet paper. Signed and dated on the front. A Linocut Print is a relief printing technique where lino is cut, inked and rolled to create an inverse relief print, generating the image as seen.

Kate is a textile designer and print-maker who has worked with a wide range of fashion brands including Fenchurch, Miss Selfridge and the Japanese fashion designer Michiko Koshino. Then in 2011 Kate set up her own printmaking studio. Her approach to design and printmaking stems from a love of florals, geometric patterns and bold colours often found in textiles. Much of her inspiration comes from the natural landscapes of East Anglia. Working in a variety of techniques to create her distinctive style, she describes her style as “Vibrant, illustrative and quirky.”

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

Kate Heiss
Kate Heiss is a contemporary printmaker and designer creating limited edition screen prints and linocuts on paper. Heiss studied at the Royal College of Art, graduating with an MA in Textile Design in 1997. She then worked for a wide range of fashion brands before setting up her printmaking studio in 2011. Heiss creates dynamic, vibrant, illustrative prints inspired by her love of birds, flowers and nature of the landscapes of East Anglia. Her work is handmade in her studio in Hertfordshire and regularly exhibited across the UK. Heiss’s artworks and surface pattern designs have also been used by many familiar Stationery and Homeware brands. Her clients include the Museums & Galleries, The ART File, Art Angels, Woodmansterne, Camden Graphics, Athena, Rewrapped and John Lewis. Recently, she completed several private commissions and has had her work featured in a variety of books.
