Koichi Sakamoto was born in the year 1932 in the Tochigi Prefecture in Japan. Koichi Sakamoto is well known for creating mesmerizing, atmospheric scenes void of figures – The cottages with their thatched roofs are his trademark subject matter, reoccurring throughout his entire artistic output. Sakamoto having achieved global popularity and being featured in galleries and exhibitions in India, Italy, the United States, France and Japan, is an important 20th century representative of Japan’s long heritage in printmaking. The sheet here on offer was originally framed behind a mount and shows some browning to the paper to what was the visible/exposed image area.
