Santa Monica-based architect Leland F. Fuller (American, 1899-1962) designed and built residences for wealthy clients and the Hollywood elite during the 1920s and 1930s. He worked as an art director in the motion picture industry. Fuller was a member of the AIA between 1933 and 1938. He worked in the various period revival styles popular during the pre-World War II period. One of his largest and best-known commissions was the Tudor Revival-style residence in Beverly Hills for Charles and Al Christie (known as “Waverly”). Fuller’s work was published nationally and internationally in such magazines as House Beautiful, Architect & Engineer, and Abitare. He also designed the “El Kantara” house in Palm Springs. His own home in Santa Monica was singled out for the Better Homes in America Small House Competition for 1932 and published in Architect & Engineer. For his work as an art director, he was nominated for six Academy Awards. At the time of his retirement, he was an art director for 20th Century Fox Studios.
