ALGARVE LANDSCAPE is an original hand drawn lithograph by the American woman artist Mary Faulconer printed using traditional lithography techniques on archival paper 100% acid free. ALGARVE LANDSCAPE depicts a contemporary interpretation of simple white Portuguese country houses expressed in a quiet palette of light aqua, yellow beige, turquoise, light salmon and gray setting a peaceful scene. Traditional Portuguese houses in the Algarve region are white with yellow or blue borders and thick stone walls to protect from summer heat. Print size - 25 x 22 inches, unframed, very good condition, pencil signed by Mary Faulconer Image size - 16 x 20 inches Year printed - 1979 The art director for "Harper's Bazaar" magazine in 1940 and for "Mademoiselle" magazine in 1945, Mary Faulconer was also a painter, designer and teacher of advertising from 1936 to 1940 at the Philadelphia Museum School of Art where she had been a student. In 1972, a stamp design by Faulconer was accepted by the U.S. Postal Service. She also did commission paintings for Steuben Glass and for UNICEF. Faulconer was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her work was in the private collections of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon, the Duchess of Windsor and Mr. and Mrs. John J. Whitney. She exhibited her work in galleries in New York City, HIlton Head South Carolina, and Nashville, Tennessee.
