Signed lower right, 'Max Pollak' (American, 1886-1970) with number and limitation, lower center, '54/150' and titled, lower left, 'New York: Hoboken Ferry'. Stamped in plate, lower right, with copyright for 'Corp. Rud. Lesch N.Y.' Paper dimensions: 13.75 x 18.75 inches Max Pollak was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia and, while still a young man in Vienna, had achieved a reputation for the skill of his etchings. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Art and, from 1910-1914, traveled through Italy, France and Holland. In 1927, he emigrated to New York and, by 1938, was living in California. Over the course of a long career, Max Pollak exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards, including at the Golden Gate International Exposition (1939) and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor (1940). Among many distinctions, he won the California Society of Etchers awards (1942, 1944, 1945) and the Chicago Society of Etchers Award (1942).

This is an original etching by Luigi Kasimir and is hand-signed by the artist. The notable etcher and painter, Luigi Kasimir, attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied under William Unger, who introduced him to colored etching. Kasimir was influenced by Anders Zorn and Karl von Kalckreuth and he furthered his studies with Sigmund L'Allemand. A pioneer in the technique of hand-colored etching, Kasimir began exhibiting in 1905 and received immediate critical recognition. Starting with a sketch, usually in pastel, Kasimir would transfer the design, by hand, onto as many as six plates, applying the color by hand to each plate. Luigi Kasimir's work is held in private and public collections throughout the world including in the permanent collections of New York's Metropolitan Museum and Smithsonian Museum, among others. Signed in pencil in the lower right margin, and inscribed "Ponte Trinità, Florence" in pencil the lower left margin. Non-archival paper tape tabs at the top right and left corners on the verso, with minor associated discoloration which presents on the recto. Minor, light mat tone, and some very small losses at the extreme corners, well outside of image area.
