In 1995, Michel Delacroix became the Official Artist of the Special Olympics World Games and was joined for the unveiling of the splendid commemorative lithograph ‘Sport. Spirit. Splendor' by Caroline Kennedy. This commissioned print edition, SPORT, SPIRIT, SPLENDOR features a depiction of community townspeople gathering by the flag pole at the town green to cheer on the colorfully dressed charity runners as they pass. In SPORT, SPIRIT, SPLENDOR a calming pink and blue horizon serves as the backdrop of this quaint New England town green landscape scene featuring a charity running event printed in shades of Autumn golden ochre, greens, brown. A prominent white steeple tops the terracotta brick town hall building, a red, white, and blue American flag and a dark blue and chrome yellow Special Olympics flag are visible on the center flagpole. SPORT, SPIRIT, SPLENDOR by the popular French artist Michel Delacroix is an original hand drawn, commemorative limited edition lithograph that was printed using traditional hand lithography techniques on archival Arches paper, 100% acid free. Michel Delacroix was born in 1933 on the Left Bank, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, best known for its northeastern quartier Montparnasse. He started painting at the young age of seven just as the German Occupation of Paris began. Paris as it was during the Occupation is the Paris that appears in his paintings even today; there was a virtual absence of automobiles and street lights, the city was quite and isolated. His cityscapes display a simpler Paris of the past, of his boyhood rather than the urban metropolis of today. Delacroix was educated at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and spent years experimenting with several different painting styles until, at the age of 35, he began producing works in the Naïf tradition, his characteristic style. He rarely works "en plein air", allowing him to create his own sense of perspective that emphasizes the grandeur of the boulevards and at the same time highlights the intimacy of street corners. Throughout the course of his career, Delacroix has been honored with numerous awards including the Grand Prix des Amateurs d'Art, Paris (1973). The Grand Pris de la Cote d'Azur, Cannes (1976) and the Premier Prix de Sept Collines, Rome (1976). His work can be found in several public and private collections including the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain in Paris and the Musée International d'Art Naïf. Delacroix's paintings have been featured in over 300 solo exhibitions in the United States alone. He has had numerous one-man shows as well as group exhibitions all over Europe. Michel Delacroix well known for his naif, winsom style paintings and graphics combines building structures and fine details with rich color to express the lively, diverse activity of everyday life in the cities he paints.
