About the Item
Patty deGrandpre’s “Walking the Causeway to Marblehead Neck (tough summer feet)” is a contemporary 31 x 40 x 1 inch digital inkjet print on aluminum representing the coastline of the New England town of Marblehead, Massachusetts. This unique one of a kind piece is an abstract depiction of a lighthouse, a beach chaise lounge chair, beachgrass and a screen of clouds. Vivid hues of blue, yellow, sepia, and black are the primary colors in this dynamic piece. A thin bar of red is an unexpected pop of color and compliments the graphic style in this deconstructed modern landscape. Work does not require a frame. Metal inset backing provides a stable hanging system as the work floats slightly off the wall when hung. This durable print can be easily cleaned with a soft microfiber cloth.
DeGrandpre incorporates experimental printmaking, mixed media and photography in her art practice. deGrandpre interlaces the concept of fundamental form and color with pictorial imagery resulting in dynamic colorful compositions that combine the recognizable with the abstract. DeGrandpre’s artworks evolve from the vast catalog of photographs of common objects and scenes from her everyday life and experiences. The imagery serves not only as visual content for her artwork but also as a tool to document and recall moments in her life much like pages from a photo album.
DeGrandpre received her BFA in Visual Design from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1987. She has exhibited throughout the United States including three solo exhibitions. deGrandpre’s work has been featured in various periodicals as well as being the recipient of various awards in both Fine Art and Printmaking. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston Massachusetts.
