This screen print was inspired by a walk around Haweswater on a stormy and drizzly day. Haweswater is one of the most difficult lakes to get to in The Lake District, it has one small road down one side with a tiny car park at the end. This ensures it is extraordinarily peaceful and unspoiled. The fells rise up above the lake in customary dramatic and beautiful fashion. The light changes second by second and the colours are the warm greys, greens, reds and browns we so associate with this landscape. On this particular day the sky was turning from dark malevolent grey to a golden glow of sunshine as the rain came and went.
This screen print is multi layered, approximately 15 or 16 layers. Sarah makes the screen stencils by creating block sections that follow the contours of the land. This is a lengthy, painstaking process. The prints take several days to make as layers need to dry and new screens need to be made to add the next layers.
Sarah’s prints tend to be either one off monoprints or very small editions.
