About the Item

Fictive Homelands is a suite of 7 woodcut prints with silverpoint drawing on mylar by artist Serena Perrone. Fictive Homelands is a series of works that use the theater proscenium as a framework for the scenes that occupy the space within. Each of the seven pieces begin as a woodcut of a proscenium, which is printed on frosted mylar. Delicate silverpoint and goldpoint lend a dream-like quality to hand-drawn landscapes that occupy the center stage area of each image. The scenes are locations in Sicily that are intimately familiar to Perrone and represent feelings of ambivalence towards a place that at once feels like home and a distant space. Even in seemingly utopian and romantic landscapes, tumultuous events drive one to seek refuge in the familiar and enchanting corners of the landscape, places where people and voices are absent and nature coexsits with the built environment.
