’Pisces’ Please note. This is not a mono print but 1st Dibs have option for Relief print. Which is what this is... By Yutaka Takayanagi. Medium - Relief print Edition - AP Signed - Yes Size - 510mm x 660mm Date - 1973 Condition - Excellent. 10 out of 10. Born in Tokyo in 1941, Takayanagi's artistic journey began when he enrolled at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1960, studying under the renowned oil painter Kaoru Yamaguchi. His talent was quickly recognized when he received an Honorable Mention at the 8th Shell Arts Award Exhibition in the same year. During his time at university, Takayanagi took an intensive course in copper plate printing under Tetsuro Komai, receiving his degree from the graduate school in 1966. Fascinated by the simultaneous color print method, he started creating copperplate prints and soon gained recognition for his unique metallic reliefs, which he produced using collages of English newspapers. Takayanagi's passion for experimentation led him to create metallic emboss reliefs using his own photographs, and in the latter half of the 1980s, he moved on to silkscreen prints. He continued to push the boundaries of his art, constantly exploring new techniques and mediums. In 1978 and the following year, Takayanagi was appointed as an arts researcher for the Ministry of Culture and traveled to the United States, France, and the UK. These experiences enriched his artistic perspective and further cemented his reputation as a highly regarded artist. Takayanagi was part of the influential printmaking group Sosaku Hanga, which emerged in the early 20th century in Japan. This movement emphasized the artist's involvement in every stage of the printmaking process, from designing the image to carving and printing the blocks. Takayanagi's work often incorporates elements of nature and landscape, with an emphasis on texture and pattern. He also experimented with collage, incorporating found materials like newspaper clippings and photographs into his prints. Takayanagi's work has been exhibited extensively in Japan and internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. He has also received numerous awards for his contributions to printmaking, including the Japan Print Association Award and the Purple Ribbon Medal...

Bouquet (mum, orange, ultra, chine collé)
Located in Bloomington, IL
"Bouquet (mum, orange, ultra chine collé)" is a unique collagraph print from a series published by Manneken Press in 2019. In collagraph printmaking the artist adds to the plate to create the image rather than carving into it, as in relief printing, or etching into it, as in intaglio printing. Howe painted the image of a bouquet of flowers in a vase with sweeping, fluid brushstrokes strokes, directly onto the plate, using a thick gel medium. Carborundum grit was added to create the texture necessary to hold the ink. Different colors were used for each impression printed from the plate, creating a series of unique but related prints. This impression utilizes the technique of chine collé. Like all of Howe's works, her monotypes have a strong, vibrant, spontaneous energy and a sensuous sensibility. Referencing her personal garden located in the Hudson Valley, flowers dissolve into abstract flurries of brush marks and fields of commingled colors. The artist balances abstraction with representation in gestural prints which are process-based while retaining an affinity with the observed subject matter. Catherine Howe is widely admired for her painterly works that reference both the baroque and nature. Drawing from nature, Howe’s paintings is influenced by New York School abstraction, as well as rococo and 17th century Dutch still life paintings. Catherine Howe received an MFA from SUNY Buffalo in 1983. Her paintings have been exhibited extensively in New York, and the United States, including solo exhibitions at New York Academy of Art, Winston Wächter...

Untitled (abstract expressionist monoprint)
Located in Wilton Manors, FL
Beautiful 1994 monotype painting by American artist, David Chamberlain (b.1950). Oil on Arches paper, image measures 16.5 x 21.5 inches; sheet measures 22 x 30 inches. The subtle variations of the oil application are quite lovely. Signed by the artist in pencil, lower margin. Printed on Rives heavy wove paper. Excellent, clean condition with no damage or restoration. Unframed: sheet is loose with no backing. Ships rolled in tube with glassine paper. David Chamberlain (American, b Canton, Ohio 1949) has been a full-time artist since 1977, and has created more than 2000 original works in both two and three dimensions. Over 100 of his works appear in the collections of recognized arts institutions and museums, worldwide. A serious and passionate musician (a cappella jazz singer with three recording albums and over 700 concerts in this avocation), Chamberlain's artistic approach and imagery is inspired by studies of musical patterns and relationships. Other influences include topology, poetry, design and flying. His sculptures are noted for their playful explorations of lyrical, melodic edges and harmonious spaces. The surfaces are all one continuous form; the insides become the outsides and vice-versa; the edges are all one line. Mediums include mahogany, bronze, titanium, gold, and ceramic/porcelain. His paintings reflect an enthusiasm for composition and improvisation. Chamberlain has developed a way to create original oil paintings using methods adapted from monotype processes incorporating a light table and mirrors, an etching press, and a variety of hands-on tools (including fingers, rollers, static electricity and blowing)... but no brushes. This method, sometimes called the Chamberlain Method, makes possible the intense collaborations he is known for, where he and another artist work on the same painting at the same time. Called Duett Painting, this mutual and simultaneous way for two artists to paint together attempts to involve the backgrounds of each, directly and profoundly. There are no rules, and there is no place to hide whoever the artists are appears in the composition. As each artist's marks influence the other's, the painting takes on a momentum of its own, compelling the artists toward a new direction neither would have pursued on their own. Chamberlain has worked with over 100 artists, musicians, dancers, poets and creative people from the USA, Asia, Europe, South America and Africa. About half of his paintings are collaborative duetts; half are conventional solo works using these techniques. His studio is based near Boulder, Colorado. He is married, with two children, a dog and three cats. Bouquet (mum, blood orange, rose)
Located in Bloomington, IL
"Bouquet (blood orange, rose)" is a unique collagraph print from a series published by Manneken Press in 2019.
