Original vintage cruise ship travel poster for Australia issued by P&O - To Australia for £37 P&O One Class Service - featuring a great design by Raphael T Roussel (1883-1967) of a smiling man wearing a hat with his sleeves rolled up, and smoking a pipe whilst greeting the viewer, pointing to Australia and the countryside with a bright yellow sunrise on the horizon and the bold stylised lettering above and on the banner at the bottom - 32 Lime Street London EC3 Agents: Sercombe & Hayes 9 South Street Dorchester. The British shipping company P&O (Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company) was founded in 1837 and operated mail and passenger services; the company was taken over by Dubai Ports World in 2006. The Australian Government actively encouraged migration to Australia during the 1920s, assisting some British migrants in establishing farms. Printed by McCorquodale & Co. Limited London. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored tears, minor stain on image, backed on linen.
