"Leisure Pool 1" is a multilayered woodcut print by Missouri artist Kristen Martincic. This print is part of a series that was inspired by backyard pool shapes and the aerial view that the artist saw as she flew over a Dallas / Fort Worth neighborhood. The pool is printed in several layers of turquoise ink which reveal translucent steps at the entrance of the pool and a richer color as the pool deepens. A glossy white border surrounds the pool providing a contrast to the texture and color of the print. A subtle wood-grain pattern has been transferred from the wood printing block onto a cream-colored gampi paper. The print has several tiny brown flecks which are inclusions from the papermaking process. This print is part of a series of 4 prints (see last photo).
