About the Item
A stunning pair of original 19th-century hand-colored botanical engravings featuring Ipomoea horsfalliae and Chirita walkeria, attributed to renowned British botanists William Jackson Hooker (1785–1865) and George Gardner (1810–1849). These works beautifully represent the golden age of botanical illustration, when scientific exploration met fine artistry.
Each engraving showcases vivid floral details and delicate hand coloring characteristic of botanical plates published in Curtis’s Botanical Magazine and similar Victorian-era journals. The plates are elegantly framed in matching black-and-gold wooden frames with cream matting, perfect for classic or eclectic interiors.
These pieces are ideal for collectors of natural history, antique prints, or decorative art. Though there is some age-related wear and light water staining to the backing and matting, the prints themselves are in excellent condition with preserved color and detail.
