About the Item

Nadine Boughton’s limited edition prints in the “Fortune and the Feminine” series are collages of images in Fortune Magazine and other vintage sources 1950–63. She collages digitally, which allows her to control scale and combine elements seamlessly, creating persuasively “realistic” fantasy scenes. Boughton (b. 1943) employs the methods and materials of Pop-Art, but her cowgirl art reclaims territory seized and long occupied by Warhol, Lichtenstein, and their ilk: in her art, High Modern seriousness sneaks in under the fashionable skirts of cynicism. She spends months constructing each collage. Her craftsmanship, warmth, humor, and sly talent for uncorking primal energies take the medium of collage into new territory as they create, in her words, “conversations between personal identity and collective history.” Print #2 of the 15x15 inch size is framed in a white mat and white aluminum frame with acrylic glazing, 21-1/4 x 21-1/4 inches overall. Prints are signed, dated, numbered, and titled verso. Unframed prints at several sizes are printed on demand; often they can be shipped more quickly, but please allow up to four weeks. Contact the gallery for prints larger than 20x20 inches (edition of 5).

Pamela Ellis Hawkes's innovative photography revitalizes antique traditions of still life painting with a playful contemporary spirit and a keen eye for seductively mysterious beauty. Her work often exposes viewers' differing expectations from photography and painting, and this surprising parallax illuminates of the changing meanings of artistic images in the visual cultures of the past and the rapidly changing present. This print from the artist’s “Fantastic Flora” series is a photograph captured by a scanner of an artful arrangement of plastic flowers. The series is both an innovative homage to the beauty of the Baroque flower...
