About the Item

Nestor Arenas (Cuba, 1964) 'Modern Icons No. 1', 2014 silkscreen on paper 39.8 x 26 in. (101 x 66 cm.) Edition of 50 Ref: ARN-301 Nestor Arenas, Biography Néstor Arenas (Cuba, 1964) is a prominent visual artist known for exploring the tensions between nature, technology, and social transformation. He graduated in 1990 from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana, one of Cuba’s leading art institutions. Throughout his career, he has developed a distinctive visual language where altered landscapes and fragmented structures invite reflection on memory and change. His work has earned international recognition, including the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award in 2019. Some of his most notable solo exhibitions include Looking Forward (Weitz Center, Minnesota, 2018), Dichotomous Structures (Kendall Art Center, Miami, 2017), and Paisajes Transformers (Centro Cultural Español de Miami, 2016). He also participated in major events like the 12th Havana Biennial. Arenas has undertaken artist residencies at institutions such as the Art Center South Florida in Miami Beach. His work has been exhibited in galleries across Cuba, the United States, and Spain, establishing his presence in the international art scene. Currently based in the United States, Néstor Arenas continues his artistic practice, focusing on the relationships between landscapes, time, and human intervention.
