About the Item

We publish editions with both gallery and non-gallery artists in various media such as etching, photogravure, silkscreen and woodcut. We offer prints and photographs on the secondary market by modern and contemporary artists and maintain a large inventory of prints and photographs by emerging as well as established artists. We have a long and rich history, having produced over the years editions with artists such as Francis Bacon, R. B. Kitaj, Alex Katz, Robert Motherwell and photogravure editions with David Armstrong, Seton Smith, McDermott & McGough, and Jean Pagliuso. Marlborough Graphics continues to publish today, often experimenting with highly innovative print techniques and papers as exemplified by the works of Claudio Bravo, Richard Estes, Red Grooms and McDermott & McGough. Some of the century’s most preeminent photographers have also collaborated with Marlborough including Bill Brandt, Irving Penn, Eugene Atget and Berenice Abbott. We are proud to represent today a growing group of American and international photographers. During the last decade we have increased the number of photographers that we represent, and dedicated more of our exhibition schedule to photography. We maintain a close working relationship with Marlborough Graphics in London, founded in the mid 1960s. They have also achieved prominence as dealers of modern and contemporary prints and as important publishers of contemporary printmakers in the United Kingdom. Many of their publications can also be viewed at our gallery in New York. We are a member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA).

Alex Katz, Twilight I Contemporary, 21st Century, Woodcut, Limited Edition, Twilight Woodcut Edition of 25 118,7 x 95,7 cm (46.7 x 37.6 in) Signed and numbered In mint condition, as acquired from the publisher “Twilight” by Alex Katz is a portfolio of three woodcut prints, each representing a study of various points in time during the natural phenomena that precedes the beginning of the new day. “From photography, I can’t get any colors and I can’t get the light I’m interested in, I want to go into areas where no one’s been in terms of time: at twilight, you get ten or fifteen minutes.” — Alex Katz While Alex Katz is best known for his portrait series, his landscapes are a significant part of his work. Katz’s profound interest in nature is reflected in this detailed study of light, each time capturing a brief moment in nature when the sun has not yet reached the horizon. The woodcut medium highlights the natural grains of the wood aiding the atmosphere of natural beauty. ALEX KATZ Alex Katz (American, born 1927) is the outstanding protagonist of figurative painting and one of our era's most acclaimed artists. In the late 1950s, the artist began to develop his mature style, characterized by elegance, simplicity, and stylized abstraction, which typifies his entire production. Alex Katz’s paintings...
