Giovanni Domenico Campiglia, 'Dei Praestitis Signumexaere' (God's Providence Signumexaere), engraving, 1734, edition unknown. Signed 'Dom. Campiglia del.' in the plate, lower left. Engraving by Gabbugiani, after the original by Giovanni Domenico Campiglia. A fine impression, on handmade, antique, laid paper; the full sheet with wide margins (1 7/8 to 2 3/8 inches); 1 inch archivally repaired tear in the bottom left sheet edge, well away from the image, otherwise in very good condition. Archivally sleeved, unmatted. Plate size 14 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches; sheet size 19 1/2 x 14 3/4 inches. From a book of engravings by Antonio Francesco Gori (1691-1757) presenting a collection of female and male classical statues of mythological and allegorical figures from the museums of Florence, Italy. Drawn by Giovanni Campiglia and etched after his designs by various artists. The collection includes Greek gods such as Apollo, Bacchus, and Venus, as well as Urania, the muse of astronomy, and Victoria, an allegorical figure representing the Roman personification of Victory.
