About the Item
Yayoi Kusama Dots Obsession poster 2007:
An iconic, vibrantly colored pop art piece - this Kusama exhibit poster features the universal polka dot patterns for which the artist is best known; here set amidst a photograph of Kusama painting human figures in the 1960s. Produced in conjunction with the 2007 Dots Obsession exhibition at Wiels Brussels: a show which featured large scale Kusama pink balloons visitors had to find their way through: a Kusama forest of forms, colors, echoes and reflections.
Off-set lithograph; 16 x 24 inches.
Very minor signs of handling; otherwise excellent condition.
Scarce; from an edition of unknown; unsigned.
Published in 2007 by the Wiels contemporary art centre.
"Named 'the world's most popular artist' in 2015, it's not hard to see why Yayoi Kusama continues to dazzle contemporary art audiences globally. From her signature polka dots—to her mirror-and-light Infinity Rooms, Kusama's multi-dimensional practice of making art elevates the experience of immersion. Kusama's practice is so unique, it often transcends the aesthetics and theories of many late twentieth century movements, including Pop Art and Minimalism.
Kusama first honed her punchy cosmic style in New York City in the 1960s. During this period, she staged avant-garde happenings, which eventually thrust her onto the international stage with a series of groundbreaking exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in the 1980s and the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993. She continues to churn out paintings and installations at inspiring speed, exhibiting internationally in nearly every corner of the globe, and maintains a commanding presence on the primary market and at auction." (source: Phillips)
“The polka dot,” the artist wrote in 1978, “has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and our living life, and also the form of the moon, which is calm. Round, soft, colorful, senseless and unknowing, polka-dots become movement. . .polka dots are a way to infinity...”

Keith Haring Painted Man:
Original 1983 announcement card for Keith Haring’s well-documented exhibition, Keith Haring 'Into 84' at Tony Shafrazi Gallery, New York, 1983. For this series Haring borrowed Jones' body — from head to toe — as the canvas to his work. A bodily canvas defined by much of the bold pictograms characteristic of Haring's artistic signature. Photos by Haring's long-time friend and collaborator Tseng Kwong Chi.
Off-set printed, 1983.
Dimensions: 6 x 4 inches.
Some minor fading to the reverse; otherwise very good overall condition with strong colors.
Literature: Keith Haring: Posters (Prestel pub.)
Further About
In 1983 Keith Haring teamed up with award-winning choreographer and dancer Bill T. Jones, founder of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Keith and Bill met in London in 1983 at a time when the graffiti artist was opening a major show at the Robert Fraser Gallery, and together they produced a series of exceptional collaborations in both performance and drawing.
