Arches Paper - Excellent Condition A
This lithographic poster was designed to promote the first Congress of Black writers and artists at la Sorbonne in Paris, in 1956. Mourlot Master Printer Henri Deschamps was asked to reproduce an original etching by Pablo Picasso that was illustrating the book "Corps Perdu", written in 1950 by famous Caribbean intellectual and poet, Aimé Cesaire. The text is an excerpt from "Cahier d’un retour au pays natal", published in 1939 and republished by Mourlot's son-in-law, Pierre Bordas in 1947. The signature on the poster is printed in the plate.
As per usual, Pablo Picasso supervised and approved the final proof.Ed. 500 on Arches with Mourlot watermark. Ref. Czwiklitzer # 122.
