About the Item
Cropped and deconstructed images of clouds, palm trees, an abandoned Hawaiian hotel facade, a car, an Aloha Airlines vintage trademark, a beach chair and a vintage photo of the two ladies in skirts are represented on 14 x 11 inch Awagami Bamboo Japanese paper in Patty deGrandpre’s contemporary abstract monoprint titled “Vintage Hawaii and Some Lady Legs”. Paying homage to retro Hawaii, deGrandpre thoughtfully combines and layers block printing ink on and within digital inkjet in hues of blue, red, sepia, black and white to create this abstracted interpretation of a classic tropical Hawaiian landscape. The “lady legs” give nod to her mother who posed with the artist’s aunt for this destined to be classic snapshot. Embracing both experimental printmaking and creative photography, deGrandpre interlaces the concept of fundamental form, patterns, playful shapes, and color with pictorial imagery resulting in dynamic vivid compositions that combine the recognizable with the abstract. DeGrandpre’s prints evolve from the vast catalog of photographs both past and present of common objects and scenes from her everyday life and experiences. The imagery serves not only as visual content for her artwork but also as a tool to document and recall moments in her life much like pages from a photo album. This one of a kind mixed media monoprint will be a welcomed addition to any modern collection. Signed and dated under the right corner of the image, this playful interpretation will ship flat in a protective sleeve ready for the frame of your choice.
DeGrandpre received her BFA in Visual Design from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1987. She has exhibited throughout the United States including three solo exhibitions. deGrandpre’s work has been featured in various periodicals as well as being the recipient of various awards in both Fine Art and Printmaking. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston Massachusetts.

Patty deGrandpre
Patty deGrandpre is a New Mexico based artist. She received her BFA in Visual Design at Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1987. Her studio is in her home in Lamy, New Mexico. She has participated in many shows, both juried and invitational, at local, regional and national levels. In addition to three solo exhibitions, she has received accolades and awards over the years in both Fine Art and Printmaking.

Snapshots of a Western United States highway and it’s vast scenic surroundings are printed on Awagami Bamboo Japanese paper in both black and white as well as monochromatic red.
