About the Item

This rare original poster by Pierre Alechinsky is a powerful artistic and historical document from the May 1968 Paris student protests. Printed on billboard paper using a home press, the poster features a vivid two-color design (red and black) with well-saturated ink. The content includes revolutionary phrases and slogans that were famously scrawled on the walls of the Sorbonne and the Odéon theaters during the height of the protests. Alechinsky, a co-founder of the CoBrA art movement, infused the poster with his signature expressive style, blending text and image into a raw and impactful visual statement. The slogans reflect the spirit of rebellion and social change that defined the protests, as students and workers challenged authority, capitalism, and the traditional social order. This poster serves as both an artifact of political resistance and a significant work of contemporary art, capturing the radical energy of one of the most iconic social movements of the 20th century. As an original, hand-printed piece, it stands as a rare and collectible example of protest art that continues to inspire political and artistic discourse today.
