About the Item

A triumph of fin-de-siècle Parisian graphic art, this poster by Pierre Bonnard announces La Revue Blanche, one of the most influential avant-garde literary and arts journals of the 1890s. Founded by the Natanson brothers, the publication quickly became a hub for Symbolists, anarchists, and Impressionists alike. Bonnard, a member of the Nabis group, infused the design with his characteristic decorative flatness and soft palette. The fashionable woman gliding across the wintery scene—her silhouette trailing like a gust of snow—is thought to be Misia Natanson, the muse and patron of many Belle Époque artists. Her fur-trimmed coat and parasol exude sophistication, echoing the journal's cutting-edge cultural tone. The flowing text and asymmetrical composition place this work firmly in the Art Nouveau aesthetic, yet with Bonnard’s uniquely poetic touch. The result is both an elegant advertisement and a timeless artwork. Literature - Advertising - France Edw. Ancourt Paris
