Candido, Alfredo. SACADURA CABRAL E GAGO COUTINHO - HOMENAGEM AOS HEROICOS AVIADORES. Jornal do Europa, 1922. Two posters comemmorating the 1922 flight from Lisbon, Portugal to Rio de Janeiro, the first crossing of the South Atlantic by air, undertaken by Cabral and Coutinho to celebrate the Centennial of Brazilian independence. The event is an important one in the early history of aviation. Though the two aviators were celebrated, and were commenmorated on postcards and other memorabilia at the time of the flight, we have not found other examples of these posters. 21 3/4 x 20 inches. Halftones in colors. One with the stamp of Jornal do Europa,New Bedford, MA. One signed by Alfredo Candido; the other signed by another artist, but illegibly. One with some waterstain in the margin, but both in generally Very Good condition.

Alfredo Candido (Brazilian, 1879-1960) was a Brazilian artist known primarily his watercolors, illustrations and caricatures.
