About the Item

Archival Pigment print on Hahnemuhle museum etching paper edition 24 of 250 printed signature on archival label on verso Published by Exhibtion A and comes with publisher's COA. Brian Calvin is an American contemporary artist known for his distinctive figurative paintings that depict stylized, elongated faces with bold colors and minimal detail. Born in 1969 in Visalia, California, Calvin studied at the University of California, Berkeley, and later earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is heavily influenced by the West Coast's bright light and relaxed atmosphere, often portraying dreamy, introspective characters with oversized eyes, parted lips, and flattened forms. Calvin's paintings are often described as a blend of Pop Art and Minimalism, with a focus on color, composition, and surface rather than realism. His subjects, typically female figures, are rendered with sharp, clean lines and a deliberately limited palette, creating an almost surreal effect. Though his portraits lack conventional expressions, they convey a sense of emotion and quiet contemplation. His work has been exhibited internationally, including in galleries and museums in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Calvin's paintings are sought after by collectors and are part of several prestigious collections. His unique approach to portraiture and color continues to influence contemporary figurative painting.
