L' Été Éclater Signed Lithograph, Portrait Heads Exotic Bird, Mauve Yellow Green

1981

About the Item

L' Été ´Eclater is an original hand drawn limited edition lithograph printed on archival Somerset paper 100% acid, free, by the Dutch artist known as CORNEILLE(Guillaume van Beverloo) an abstract expressionist who co-founded the 20th Century experimental art movement CoBrA recognized for their spontaneous, rebellious style of painting that was heavily inspired by the art of children and the mentally ill. Corneille devises his colorful fantastic imagery with exotic plant forms, sensuous female bodies, animals and lively pattern design. In L' Été ´Eclater, a fantastical black outlined dual portrait of horizontally positioned heads, with graphic mask-like facial features, looking upward towards an exotic bird encircled within a vivid grass green orb, the bright yellow and black background creating a dramatic visual contrast. The colors are engaging to look at - lively black, touches of red, white, intense yellow and green, dusky mauve pink creating a mysterious musing for the viewer. Print size - 19.75 x 23.25 in. unframed, full bleed image, vivid colors, pencil signed by Guillaume Corneille Edition size - 250 Year published - 1979 Corneille – Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo (3 July 1922 – 5 September 2010), better known under his pseudonym Corneille, was a Dutch artist. Corneille was born in Liege, Belgium, although his parents were Dutch and moved back to the Netherlands when he was 12. He studied art at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. He was one of the founders of the REFLEX movement in 1948 and in 1949 he was also one of the founders of the COBRA movement, which has had great influence on Scandinavian art. He was active within the group from the beginning, not only painting but also publishing poetry in the Cobra magazine. He was a cofounder of the Experimentele Groep in Holland (nl). The poetic Corneille was strongly influenced by Miró and Klee. After the group dissolved in 1951 he moved to Paris and began collecting African art. These artifacts became evident in his works, which began to take on a more imaginative style, like landscapes seen from a bird's eye view, exotic birds and stylised forms. His work is in the collection of the Centre Georges Pompidou. Until his death Corneille lived and worked in Paris, and made visits to Israel where he worked with the Jaffa Atelier. On 24 September 2003 an exhibition of his prints opened at the Ramat-Gan Museum of Art, Israel. He died at Auvers-sur-Oise, France. Artist bio - wikipedia

LION PORTRAIT is a contemporary wildlife portrait depicting three male lion heads, their majestic manes prominently displayed. Print size - 21.5" x 29.5", unframed, excellent condition, hand signed in pencil by Sydney Taylor Year published - 1983 Edition size - 200, plus proofs Printer - JK Fine Art Editions Co., NY About AFRICAN LIONS - Lions are the only cats that live in groups, which are called prides. These are family units that may include up to three males, a dozen or so females, and their young. All of a pride’s lionesses are related, and female cubs typically stay with the group as they age. Young males eventually leave and establish their own prides by taking over a group headed by another male. Only male lions boast manes, the impressive fringe of long hair that encircles their heads. Males defend the pride's territory, which may include some 100 square miles (259 square kilometers) of grasslands, scrub, or open woodlands. These intimidating animals mark the area with urine, roar menacingly to warn intruders, and chase off animals that encroach on their turf. Female lions are the pride's primary hunters. They often work together to prey upon antelopes, zebras, wildbeest, and other large animals of the open grasslands. Many of these animals are faster than lions, so teamwork pays off. After the hunt, the group effort often degenerates to squabbling over the sharing of the kill, with cubs at the bottom of the pecking order. Young lions do not help to hunt until they are about a year old. Lions will hunt alone if the opportunity presents itself, and they also steal kills from hyenas or wild dogs. Lions have been celebrated throughout history for their courage and strength. They once roamed most of Africa and parts of Asia and Europe. Today they are found only in parts of sub-Saharan Africa, except for one very small population of Asian Lions...
