Birds of Peace, Yue Minjun- Contemporary Art, Lithograph, Limited Edition, China
Located in Zug, CH
Yue Minjun, Birds of Peace Contemporary, 21st Century, Lithograph, Limited Edition, Chinese Lithograph Edition of 130 80 × 120 cm (47 1/5 × 31 1/2 in) Signed and numbered, accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity In mint condition, as acquired from the publisher PLEASE NOTE: Edition numbers could vary from the one shown in the pictures. The pictures shown are only for illustrative reasons, the piece is offered unframed. In fantastical paintings populated with heightened, hysterical self-portraits, Yue Minjun satirizes contemporary society and art historical tropes. Yue paints himself in fluorescent hues with a gaping grin. He occasionally multiplies his likeness, making his compositions even more menacing; his style has made him a pioneer of China’s Cynical Realism movement. Yue’s influences include Chinese socialist realism, Surrealism, and European classical paintings. He studied oil painting at Hebei Normal University in Shijiazhuang and has exhibited in Hong Kong, Berlin, Shenzhen, Shanghai, London, Basel, and New York. Yue has been the subject of numerous institutional shows at venues such as the Macao Museum, the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, the National Art Museum of China, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Bern. YUE MINJUN Yue Min-Jun (born 1962, Daqing, China) is one of the leading Chinese artists. He is best known for oil paintings depicting formations of his laughing self-portraits in various settings. His iconography is easily recognisable, it challenges social and cultural conventions by depicting objects and political issues in a radical, abstract, ironic and cynical manner. Yue Min-Jun initially started painting as a hobby, subsequently he graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Hebei Normal University, China in 1985. In the 90s he joined an artist community in Yuan Ming Yuan, a village near Beijing where he began to form his style and iconography. The paintings, sculptures, and installations of Yue Minjun feature uniform laughing pink faces, which appear to be self-portraits. Through various symbols, metaphors, signs, or through depictions of daily life the artist constructs various realities against which the laughing figures are rendered. "In my work, laughter is a representation of a state of helplessness, lack of strength and participation, with the absence of our rights that society has imposed on us." —Yue Minjun Yue became famous after his participation in the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999, which granted him access to international art. One of the best-known paintings by Yue Minjun and an icon for modern Chinese art and the Cynical Realism movement is Execution. It was painted in 1995 and is generally regarded as a reaction to the Tiananmen Square...

William Steen Untitled, from the Art Against AIDS Portfolio, 1988 Lithograph on paper with deckled edges Hand signed, numbered 38/50 and dated on lower front with printer's and publisher's blindstamp. 20 1/5 × 15 inches Unframed Hand signed, numbered and dated on lower front with printer's and publisher's blindstamp. This powerful limited edition lithograph by William Steen was published in 1988 as part of the Art Against Aids portfolio, numbered 38/50. Superb provenance as it is was acquired from the original Art Against AIDS Portfolio published in Houston, Texas. This will be the first time the work will be removed from the portfolio. The late 1980s was the height of the AIDS epidemic, and this was one of many efforts by the creative community to raise funds to assist in fighting this deadly scourge that disproportionately affected the artistic community. William Steen 1949-2008 William Steen, artist, collector, curator, and mystic, died of pancreatic cancer on December 20 in New York, where he has lived since 2001. Long time framer at the Menil Collection, the soft-spoken Steen is remembered in Houston where he had his first exhibition of paintings in 1978 at the Roberto Molina Gallery. In 1984 Steen made his first of several trips to India, photographing thousands of Tibetan Buddhist ritual paintings. A champion of outsider art, in 2000 he tangled with the Houston Police over the grafitti mural he comissioned for the walls of the reclaimed Sterling Cleaners...

Cindy Sherman Hamptons International Film Festival poster (hand signed and inscribed by Cindy Sherman), 2006 Offset lithograph poster Bold signature and inscription in black marker by Cindy Sherman on the front 32 × 24 inches Unframed This print was made for the 14th Hamptons International Film Festival from October 18-22, 2006. It was boldly inscribed in black marker to Peter by Cindy Sherman. Publisher: Hamptons International Film Festival Cindy Sherman Biography: Born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Cindy Sherman lives and works in New York NY. Her ground-breaking photographs have interrogated themes around representation and identity in contemporary media for over four decades. Coming to prominence in the late 1970s with the Pictures Generation group alongside artists such as Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince and Louise Lawler, Sherman studied art at Buffalo State College in 1972 where she turned her attention to photography. In 1977, shortly after moving to New York, Sherman began her critically acclaimed Untitled Film Stills. A suite of 69 black and white portraits, Untitled Film Stills sees Sherman impersonate a myriad of stereotypical female characters and caricatures inspired by Hollywood pictures, film noir, and B movies. Using a range of costumes, props and backdrops to manipulate her own appearance and to create photographs resembling promotional film images, the series explores the tension between artifice and identity in consumer culture which has preoccupied the artist’s practice ever since. Sherman continued to channel and reconstruct familiar personas known to the collective psyche, often in unsettling ways. In 1981, the artist created her Centerfolds, a series of photographic double spreads inspired by men’s erotic...

Baseball Game: realist large-scale black and white drawing of sports game
Located in New York, NY
This print depicts a baseball game mid-play. An umpire crouches with his hand up, and the batter stands poised. In the lower right, spectators peer onto the field. The awning of the stadium, silhouetted in black, cuts lines across the top of the composition, rising over a hillside crowded with homes. This finely-drawn lithograph features Zalopany's characteristic mastery of light and shadow, from the delicate texture of the field, to the spectators backlit in shadow. The composition of Baseball Game was taken from a page in an old picture book, depicting a downtown section of Caracas, Venezuela that is home to a number of Art Deco buildings, all built in the 1950's. Found images are a regular inspiration for Zalopany's large-scale realism. This print calls additionally on Zalopany's regular depiction of nature contrasted with the man-made: here, a behemoth stadium rises beside rolling hills, themselves punctuated with more buildings than trees. This contrast is enhanced by the use of textured, delicate handmade paper, which lends warmth to this dramatic black-and-white drawing. Image 37.5 x 28 in. / 95.25 x 71.2 cm. Paper 51 x 36 in. / 131 x 93 cm. Lithograph on Korean kozo paper. Edition 70. Signed by the artist lower right in pencil, numbered lower center in pencil. Born in 1955 in Detroit Michigan, Michele Zalopany is a contemporary American artist best known for her large-scale watercolor and pastel paintings based on photographs found in digital picture collections, old books, and flea markets, etc. Found photographs and film screen shots that had originally served other purposes -- family snapshots, police photos...
