Biografía del artista:
Maurice Milliere (1871-1946) fue un pintor, grabador e ilustrador francés nacido en Le Havre, hijo de una familia de clase trabajadora alta; su padre era empleado de un comerciante. No se conocen sus primeros intereses artísticos, pero completó su educación secundaria en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Le Havre antes de viajar a París en 1889 para continuar sus estudios en la Escuela de Artes Decorativas y la Escuela de Bellas Artes.
Fue contemporáneo de Louis Icart, aunque algunos de sus primeros grabados (de alrededor de 1907) son anteriores a los de Icart. Milliere sirvió de inspiración temprana a Alberto Vargas y Enoch Bolles y fue, sin lugar a dudas, un éxito comercial. Además de sus obras de arte originales, como óleos y grabados, fue un prolífico ilustrador comercial, al que se le encargaron imágenes que se utilizaron en revistas como La Vie Parisienne, Le Sourire (reimpresa en Estados Unidos durante la década de 1920) y Fantasio, en postales, carteles, menús y envases de productos.
También obtuvo mucho éxito de crítica, exponiendo en el "Salon des Artistes Francais", el "Salon des Humoristes" y siendo nombrado Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, y en la L'Exposition Coloniale de 1931, donde recibió una medalla de oro.
Ayudó a establecer el género del arte boudoir. Millière murió en 1946 a la edad de 74 años.
