Stipple engraving by W Nicholls after Ozias Humphrey RA (1742-1810). 1809.
George Stubbs was a famous English painter of the horse and some wild animals. This portrait shows him gesturing towards his largest work on copper, his Phaeton and the Chariot of the Sun of 1775. The original watercolour with pencil is in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
