SET OF THREE Limited edition of 150. Three American icons: the stars and stripes, Elvis Presley and Coca Cola are combined to create American Trilogy, a classic pop art image by Sir Peter Blake.American Trilogy celebrates the roots of Pop Art; featuring imagery that represents the power of mass consumer products and popular culture, and reflecting the fact the America lead mass culture revolution in the 1950s. There are three versions of this silkscreen print; all feature embossing and hand-applied gold or silver leaf, and two are finished with diamond dust. This repetition of imagery with a slight variation on colour or surface texture is reminiscent of the work of Andy Warhol, and serves the double purpose of reflecting the endless ‘sameness’ of mass production and rooting American Trilogy deep in the Pop Art tradition. This is black and silver, diamond dust, published in London by CCA Galleries.

Peter Blake
Peter Blake is widely regarded as the godfather of British Pop art and the Young British Artists movement (YBA).
Blake created paintings, collages and prints that blend modernity and nostalgia. Though best known for designing the album cover for the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, he considered painting to be central to his oeuvre. While celebrity figures such as Marilyn Monroe informed Blake's work, folk art, fairground signs and an overall sense of nostalgia influenced his style.
In 1997, at the age of 65, Blake emotionally retired from painting and entered what he called his "late period." Afterward, he continued to work but was no longer interested in the art world’s opinion of his art, instead creating what he wanted regardless of its relation to his previous artworks over the course of his career.

Hand printed silkscreen print, numbered and signed by Sir Peter Blake. The original photograph for the cover was taken at Michale Cooper's Flood Street Studio in Chelsea on March 30th 1967. The copyright of the photo remains with Apple, the Beatles management company. In 2007, after 40 years of trying, Peter Blake managed to get the Beatles to agree to publish a limited edition of 500 silkscreen prints on 410gsm Somerset cotton linter archive fine art paper medium, with the sheet size being 27 inches high by 26.25 inches wide. The image size being 19.5 inches square.
Archival pigment inks were used with specialist glazing and an additional spot varnishing.
29 screens were hand applied to print the edition, being 27 colours plus 2 glazes.
Every print bears the Apple logo embossed in the bottom centre.
Published by Pete Smith of Pierre Optique, who negotiated the rights, Peter Blake was paid £10 for each signature and allowed to keep the 50 Artists Proofs.
No 499 and No 500/500 were purchased by the Saint Giles Street Gallery and No 499 was embellished on the mount with original ticket stubs, bubblegum cards, official SPLHCB stamps issued by the Royal Mail along with other sundry paper ephemera and sent to Dublin to the Leinster Gallery to form part of their Unseen Beatles Show of Frank Herrmann...

Unique Peter Blake AA Road sign on sheet metal - signed

This is a metallic AA road sign used to direct traffic to parking. In keeping with Blake's idea of 'Found Art', in which he uses art found in streets, rubbish dumps, antique shops and discarded items, turning them into works of art, this was an original road sign used for Blake's 2008 exhibition at The Saint Giles Gallery in Norwich and found by a customer and returned to the gallery during the show. Blake came to the closing of the show rather than the opening where he signed the sign. This is a unique item. One off.
Heralded as the ‘Godfather of Pop Art’, Sir Peter Blake was knighted in 2002 for his invaluable contribution to contemporary art.
Blake began his career creating collages from photographs, cigarette packets and matchboxes. This new approach to the creation of visual art – taking found imagery from Pop culture – was spearheaded in Britain by Blake and continues to inspire contemporary artists today.
