WORKING MOM depicts a businesswoman wearing a navy pinstripe dress and black pumps, pushing her twins in a baby carriage as a line of four businessmen in khaki overcoats move in unison across the composition from right to left, the woman pushing forward in the opposite direction left to right; gray city buildings serve as a backdrop. Robin Morris utilizes her characteristic Art Deco stylized drawing in sophisticated neutral color palette of light gray, light khaki, brown, navy blue, peach tan, orange, red, white and black creating an interesting rendition of an everyday city scene of a modern day working mom. Gilbert and Sullivan refer to the Victorian-era theatrical partnership of the librettist W. S. Gilbert (1836–1911) and the composer Arthur Sullivan (1842–1900). Gilbert, who wrote the words, created fanciful 'topsy-turvy' worlds for these operas where each absurdity is taken to its logical conclusion. Sullivan created the music for these operas.
"The Mikado" is a comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan, first performed in 1885. Set in Japan, it satirizes British politics and society through its whimsical characters and humorous plot.
