About the Item

Penny Arcade (American, born 1950). LA MISERIA POSTER. Photo offset poster, circa 1991. 22 1/2 x 17 3/4 inches, mounted to paper and backed with cloth to 25 1/2 x 19 1/8 inches. In very good condition, but with a short tear at the bottom center of the sheet resulting in obscuring part of the letters "t" and "m" in the words "Art Matters." The poster is for a production of Penny Arcade's autobiographical play "La Miseria" at PS 122 on 1st Avenue at East 9th Street in Manhattan. Uncommon. Penny Arcade is the professional name of Susana Carmen Ventura. She has been associated with the Theater of the Ridiculous, was featured in an Andy Warhol film, worked with Jackie Curtis, Candy Darling, and Patti Smith, has written and starred in several plays and other performance projects, and been an outspoken LGBTQ activist. Her website and Wikipedia both provide extensive biographical information.

La Portentosa Vida de la Muerte II
By Enrique Chagoya
Located in Lyons, CO
Color lithograph, Edition 30. Enrique Chagoya makes paintings and prints about the changing nature of culture. My artwork is a conceptual fusion of opposite cultural realities that I have experienced in my lifetime. I integrate diverse elements: from pre-Columbian mythology, western religious iconography and American popular culture. On the border of this print surrounding the image the following is written: An American tourist is approached by a Mexican kid holding a small human skull in his hand. He asks him: “Hey Mister, do you want to buy Pancho Villa...
