About the Item

In All Privacy is a digital pigment print on paper, image size 20 x 20 inches and framed in a contemporary light wood frame. Signed 'RENÉ LALONDE' lower right and annotated lower left. Numbered XCII/C from the edition of 325 (there were also 195 Arabic, 25 AP and 5 HC, all on canvas). It is difficult to categorize the vibrant, luminous, and delightful work of René Lalonde, an art that he himself referred to as ‘New Modern Art’ and which was rooted in many other traditions from American Modernists like Thomas Hart Benton and Charles Sheeler to the psychedelia of Peter Max and most importantly the infused and magical light of Maxfield Parrish. Lalonde’s world was strongly influenced by his ‘monastery-like’ time in boarding school from the ages of 6 – 12. There, he was forced to imagine the outside world and thus developed a vivid imagination as well as what he described as an ‘inner peace’ that held throughout his life. Additionally, he was profoundly affected by the revolutionary events in the music world of the sixties, beginning with the Beatles and the British Invasion, and evolving into the psychedelic culture of the late sixties and seventies. His mature style, developed throughout the eighties and nineties shows influences from fauvism and surrealism in addition to the artists mentioned above, and yet, Lalonde’s art is always uniquely his own, not belonging to any of these art movements. That unique vision has drawn collectors for decades to artworks that express an indelible ‘je ne sais quoi’ – fascinating, strange, intriguing, and somehow emotionally satisfying. Lalonde gives us odd and enchanting still lifes, intimate interiors, fantastical exteriors and landscapes, and always a masterful blend of vivid colors and unusual shapes. Ordinary objects, landscapes, or architecture through Lalonde’s paintbrush always metamorphosize into extraordinary visions. Welcome to the world of René Lalonde!

Too Far
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Too Far" 2004 is an original mixed media (color monotype and pencil drawing) by noted Swiss artist Francois Burland b.1958. It is hand signed, dated, numbered 1/1 and dedicated in pencil by the artist. The subject size is 7.75 x 10.5, including the pencil drawing is 9.5 x 13.5 inches, sheet size is 13 x 19.75 inches, framed size is 21 x 28 inches. Custom framed in a wooden black frame, with white matting. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: François Burland (1958) was born in Lausanne (Switzerland). He began drawing in self-taught fashion at the end of his adolescence. He undertook a first trip to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula at the age of twenty. A few years later, he encountered the Tuaregs in the Sahara Desert. Enthused by their nomadic lifestyle, he began returning to the region regularly over some thirty years. During his long stays with the Tuaregs, he shared their daily life, including their dromedaries and witchcraft, but also their 4x4s, mobiles and kalachnikovs. This creator has produced an abundant and varied oeuvre. Depending on each series and on his inspiration of the day, he avails himself of a number of techniques and materials. For his drawings, he prefers to use wrapping paper as a support: he applies pastels, colored pencil and white chalk to very large surfaces. His creations bring to mind shamanic art...
